The 2025 laureates shared the following remarks.
Professor Robert B. Jackson (USA)
Department of Earth System Science, Stanford University
Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through research on the carbon cycle
Excerpt from His Remarks:
"To limit the rise in average global temperatures to below 1.5℃, we must not only reduce carbon dioxide emissions but also focus on cutting methane emissions, which would have a more immediate impact. "My personal goal is to contribute to slowing the increase in average global temperature through the reduction of methane emissions. Efforts to address climate change are not only about protecting the environment--they are also about safeguarding our own health and way of life."
Message to Japanese Students and Researchers Studying Environmental Issues::
"I encourage you to acknowledge the progress we have made. Japan's research has already made many valuable contributions to the world. Please hold onto an optimistic sense of hope, believe that your actions today truly matter, and work together toward a better future."
Dr. Jeremy Leggett (UK)
Founder & CEO, Highland Rewilding Ltd.
Inaugural chairman of the Carbon Tracker Initiative
Integrating climate change risks into financial and capital markets
Excerpt from His Remarks:
"I have long worked with Japanese researchers and business leaders to address the challenges of climate change. As it has become increasingly difficult to curb the rise in global temperatures, I believe it is more important than ever to engage those who still underestimate the seriousness of this crisis and to promote nature restoration through practical action."
Message to Japanese Students and Researchers Studying Environmental Issues:
"I believe that when young people reflect on the impact their generation can have and choose to take action to bring about positive change for the planet, their efforts can inspire people across generations and help open pathways through the challenges we face today."
