Report on the 34th Blue Planet Prize Commemorative Lectures in Tokyo

On October 30, 2025, the commemorative lectures by the 2025 Blue Planet Prize laureates were held at the Ito International Academic Research Center, The University of Tokyo.

Part 1: Lecture by Professor Robert B. Jackson

Professor Robert Jackson of Stanford University delivered a lecture titled "Restoring the Atmosphere: Hope, Health, and Humanity." He focused on the current state of climate change and air pollution, emphasizing the importance of scientific approaches and effective policies to address these global challenges. Following the lecture, a lively question-and-answer session was moderated by Professor Kaoru Kitajima from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University.

Part 2: Lecture by Dr. Jeremy Leggett

Next, Dr. Jeremy Leggett, who has long been dedicated to promoting solar energy and combating climate change, delivered a lecture titled "Communicating Climate and Nature Risk in the Post-Truth Age: Lessons from a Campaigning Life" Drawing on his own experiences, he spoke about the intersection of science and society; and the challenges and importance of conveying truth in today's world. Following his lecture, a question-and-answer session was held, moderated by Dr. Hideyuki Nishioka, Senior Research Advisor at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
